WELCOME TO

 THE MEZ EFFECT

What began as my personal journey with breast cancer has grown into something bigger: a movement to spark awareness, connection, and action across Australia.

From the importance of checking our boobs and our superannuation, to sharing the real stories of how cancer touches lives, The Mez Effect is about creating spaces where we can learn, connect, and leave a lasting legacy.

MY STORY

Merren “Mez” Lawson grew up on a Cootamundra farm, chasing tennis balls and 200‑metre sprints before she ever knew the truth about her own beginnings. At 48, a Facebook message revealed she’d been adopted at birth and had a full‑blooded sister she’d never met – a discovery that rewrote her life story overnight.

After decades as a devoted primary school teacher, the stress of a toxic workplace took a quiet toll. Then came the words no one forgets: “You have cancer.” The diagnosis – rare, metastatic breast cancer in her clavicle – was inoperable and lifelong. Her world narrowed, but her purpose sharpened.

Through recovery, Mez realised most women have never been taught how to truly prioritise their health. The Mez Effect was born: a movement built on awareness, advocacy, education, community, and courage. Today, Mez writes, speaks, hosts events and plans Turn the Sea Pink 2026, turning her hardest chapter into a legacy that reminds women: this could happen to anyone – please don’t wait.

The Interactive Digital Wall

The heart of The Mez Effect is our interactive digital wall — the first of its kind in Australia. It’s a living, evolving online space where anyone can upload their voice, memory, or message. Each contribution becomes part of a collective mosaic: a wall of hope, strength, and remembrance.

You can share a video message, a photo, a voice note, a written reflection, or even a song that carried you through tough times. Every story adds another piece to the wall — building a national archive of courage, connection, and awareness.

Why This Matters

Cancer doesn’t just touch individuals — it ripples through families, workplaces, and communities. The Mez Effect was created with these four pillars in mind.

AWARENESS

Reminding women to check their boobs and their super.

CONNECTION

Building a safe place to share and listen.

PREVENTION

Spotlighting early detection and health awareness.

LEGACY

Creating an enduring digital wall that honours stories..

The Mission

I’m here to start a movement: encouraging women to check their boobs and their super. You don’t have to wait for a diagnosis to take control of your future.

Turn the Sea Pink

September 26, 2026 7am-10am at Manly Beach

In 2026, The Mez Effect will host a landmark community event: Turn the Sea Pink at Manly Beach.

Picture this: hundreds of people in pink swimwear, rash vests, and caps entering the water together. The famous blue surf turns pink in a breathtaking display of unity, hope, and strength.

It will be:
🌊 A powerful visual moment captured from the sky and shared nationwide.
đź’ž A chance for survivors, families, and supporters to stand together.
🎶 A celebration with music, food, and community spirit.
🎗️ A fundraiser for breast cancer research and support.
